Raising the rafters at Barfold Union

Image

The tiny Barfold Union Church Evensong was a spectacular success-exceeding the most hopeful of expectations.  With two inspirational sermons by Rev'ds Jenny Hayes and Adele Mapperson, music by Betty and the BJ,s, support from local Langley and Barfold residents  and unfettered and unbridled singing by the congregation.  It was standing room only, it was.... Well it was....positively penetecostal in style.  It was a great evening of spiritual enthusiasm-where did it all suddenly come from?

Supper at the Barfold Hall was great, and thanks to Elaine and Briony for their help and brilliant coordination.

Bishop appoints new Rector

The Bishop Andrew Curnow has announced the appointment of Fr Tony White to the position of Rector of the Parish of Kyneton, the announcement which was made simultaneously at St Mary's Woodend and at St Paul's Kyneton.

"I know that the Parish of Kyneton will benefit enormously from this appointment and I have the added advantage that my decision has the full and unanimous support of the Parish Wardens and given Tony's background and the experience that both he and his wife Robyn will bring to the position it will be a case of Woodend's loss being very much  Kyneton's gain" the said Bishop Andrew  "additionally the Diocese will also benefit by being able to retain Tony's services".

This appointment is seen as a move to not only fill an important position in the Diocese, but to also consolidate current clergy within the Diocese - the loss of two other clergy to competing Melbourne parishes and the potential loss of others meant that the Bishop needed to respond quickly to the situation.

It is expected that Tony will take up his appointment at some time in the early new year when he and wife Robyn will move to Kyneton-once some basic structural renovations are completed at the Rectory in Yaldwin Street.  An announcement on the exact date of the appointment and installation will be forthcoming.

This appointment will conclude the interim assignment of Fr Laurie McIntyre whose brief it was to prepare the parish for a new incumbent with all the ‘plant and equipment' in place.  In his 15 months he was responsible for the makeover of the church and the establishment and upgrade of the Parish Administration Centre-all is now ready for the new beginning in 2009. Congratulations are in order, all round!
